Smoothing the Renovation Process
- Clear work areas of furniture, curtains, artwork. Renovating can be dusty, and the less you have to clean later, the better.
- Make your product selections early. Not only will this prevent delays, but it’ll help in the design and build process
- Keep changes to a minimum. Revisions can prove costly, both in money and time
- Keep communication open. If you have concerns, ask them as they arise
- Ensure that you fully understand the contract and the scope of the job.
- There will be unpredictability. Every job is unique. No one really knows what’s behind those walls
While your home is being renovated, you should insure the structure and its contents. If you don’t, then you could be exposed to certain risks that are out of your control, including fire and weather. When hiring a renovation contractor, find out if they have workers compensation insurance and ask to see a copy of the policy. Workers compensation pays for medical and rehabilitation expenses and covers lost wages if the workers sustain injuries on the job. You should also protect yourself by verifying that whoever is renovating your home is carrying proper insurance coverage, which That Reno Guy Ltd. is happy to provide before starting your project.
We have a two-year warranty on materials and labor that starts from the end of a project and covers defects in materials and/or the outcome of improper installation. However, by aligning ourselves from the start with high quality tradespeople and materials, we aim to significantly reduce any need for warranty service. All projects are built to Alberta Building Code only after the proper permits have been obtained.
Any work that will result in an additional cost will be processed through a Charge Order. You will always know where the overall project cost stands. This eliminates the “surprises” at the end of your project and allows you to make sound financially decisions.
All of our craftsmen are appropriately licensed and insured in province of Alberta. We want to make sure that you are totally comfortable with our employees and tradespeople. Each and every craftsman we employ upholds the same values of honesty and integrity as our company.
Every renovation project is different. On average a bathroom will take 2-4 weeks and a kitchen around 3-4 weeks. Having all selections completed prior to the start of the project is key to keep a project on schedule. Let’s talk and we’ll try and give you an estimated timeframe.
Yes. We partner with local showrooms to help with making key material choices such as cabinetry, tile, countertops & hardwood flooring.
Unfortunately, we do not do projects without providing the products ourselves. We used to do this but have had many issues with products that have come damaged or we aren’t used to installing them and we cannot guarantee a product we dont supply. We rely on our partnerships with our vendors to help with damaged products, unique installations, and specialized product information.
This can be a tricky question, but we always advise our customers to set aside additional funds beyond the anticipated cost. Unforeseen issues, including bad framework, outdated wiring, and rotting wood can result in additional costs beyond those outlined in the proposal. We always try to limit these expenses and predict these problem areas well in advance. No matter what may happen, our team will do everything we can to make it right.
Estimate: This is just that: a rough range of the costs that you’ll incur during your project. It will likely change as the design and your material selections are refined. This gives the client a better sense of how much they should set aside for their project before we move forward to nail down the exact specifications of their project.
Quote: This is a detailed price which is typically based on visits to our client’s home. It will include the exact designs, labor and building material costs, and a detailed project scope. That Reno Guy Ltd. and our client’s will both sign off on this quote before any work takes place.
Comparing different estimates can certainly help, but judging service, craftsmanship, and customer service can be tough. We always advise homeowners, whether they choose That Reno Guy Ltd. or another company, to only hire the contractor that you feel the most comfortable with. Remember, no matter who you choose, these individuals will be in your home on a daily basis, so you must completely trust them.
We use email and text communication a lot through the process of a project but, we believe the first conversation should be done over the phone. This allows both of us to determine whether or not this is a good fit. There are some projects that don’t fit our company profile and process and we would rather have a conversation first, to make sure not to waste your time with a meeting.

We've dealt with many businesses and tradespeople when renovating past homes and building our current home. Joe and his team are the best we've ever worked with. They showed up when they said they would, completed what was agreed upon, and were very respectful of our home. They took extra measures to reduce drywall dust and always cleaned up after themselves. We had a few smaller projects that needed to be completed around our home and had a hard time finding someone to do it. Other businesses would either tell us they didn't have time for our projects, couldn't fit us in for months, or they would quote a price that was insanely high. We found ourselves having to do a basement renovation unexpectedly and part had to be done in a short timeframe. From the moment we called for a quote through to the end of the project Joe has been an amazing communicator, very understanding and met every challenge with professionalism and a great attitude. Joe and his crew were an integral part of our home build. My wife and I were our own general contractors and this was our first home build. Joe was professional, always on time and came in at or below our budget. We had Joe install Kitchen/ Bathroom Tile, Shower Tile, Back Splash, Hard Wood Flooring, Vinyl Planking and Carpet on the stairs. All the work was performed to a very high standard.
